LAS VEGAS – Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has a lucky charm. His name is Brian Pattie.

In his capacity as crew chief on Stenhouse’s No. 47 JTG Daugherty Chevrolet, Pattie often opts for contrarian strategy. That certainly was the case in Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, as Stenhouse built on a strong Daytona Speedweeks with a strategic third-place finish in the second NASCAR Cup Series race of the season.

Brian Pattie repeatedly kept Stenhouse on the track during green-flag pit stop cycles, hoping for a timely caution. The gamble finally paid off when Chase Elliott hit the turn one wall on lap 220 because of a flat left rear tire.

Denny Hamlin Makes a Late Run to Victory

A victory for Denny Hamlin is a sure indication that the NASCAR Cup Series season has officially returned with the 62nd running of the Daytona 500. It was an incredible prerace show that included President Donald Trump being the Grand Marshall and WWE Superstar Seamus being the honorary pace car drivers. Dale Earnhardt Jr. also waved the green flag to kick off the race. The race track was buzzing with excitement with these important figures making an appearance.

Daytona International Speedway annually holds the two duel races to set the lineup for the Daytona 500 on Sunday. The first duel sets the inside line, and the second duel sets the outside line. These two races give the drivers the best opportunity to see how their cars will handle in the draft, and while making dicey moves to work their way to the front of the field.

Buescher to Roush Fenway’s No. 17 in 2020; Team is Parting Ways with Stenhouse Jr.

Yesterday, Roush Fenway Racing told the racing world that Chris Buescher is returning to the organization to take the wheel of the No. 17 NASCAR Cup Series Ford in the 2020 season. Along with this revelation is the news that RFR is parting ways with Ricky Stenhouse JR at the end of the 2019 season.

Stenhouse Jr and Roush-Fenway Racing Putting Focus on the Bigger Picture

Roush Fenway Racing driver, Ricky Stenhouse Jr picked up his first NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series win at Talladega in the spring of 2017 and followed it up with another victory at Daytona in July that same year.  Since then, the No. 17 Fastenal Ford has been considered a favorite on the superspeedways but the Roush Fenway team is looking to elevate their entire program back to their championship contending form.  It just takes steps and time.
